Stellenbosch University Faculty of Science NARGA Technical Officer (Job Level 10) (Stellenbosch Campus) Ref. NW09/322/1124 NARGA is a division that provides Information and Communication Technology services to all students within the Faculties of Science and AgriSciences at Stellenbosch University (SU), to enable them to succeed in their studies. The incumbent will form part of a team responsible for administrating and developing various systems within the Faculties of Science and AgriSciences. This is a dynamic environment where skills are developed and tasks are assigned as the need changes. Please note that the level of appointment and remuneration will be negotiated in line with experience. Duties: Students and Lecturers: o Providing technical support to students and lecturers experiencing technical problems including after-hours support with assessments, inaugural lectures and seminars. Administrative: o Handling and reporting on day-to-day tasks in NARGA (including upgrading of computers and installation of new computers). o Scheduling and booking venues according to timetables. o Ensuring that all NARGA venues comply with the safety policy and reporting safety and security issues. Acting as overall safety representative of all NARGA venues. o Completing ad hoc tasks necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the Computer Users Area (RGA) and lecture rooms, and rendering essential services by: i. Maintaining stores and their content. ii. Moving equipment as requested. iii. Entering the necessary budget items and requested requisitions into the financial system. iv. Rendering assistance regarding the general maintenance and operation of NARGA as requested. o Inspecting the general tidiness of lecture rooms and submitting reports on breakages where necessary. o Maintaining and updating the NARGA asset register. Technical: o Ensuring that all computer equipment in all of NARGAs rooms (Main CUA rooms, Satellite CUA rooms, kiosks and lecture rooms) are always in working order. o Regularly checking lecture room equipment and reporting if faulty: projectors, screens, lighting, air conditioning, sound equipment, batteries, etc. o Standardising computer equipment, software and procedures in lecture rooms. o Offering full-time technical assistance during classes to solve technical problems (hard- and software) without any delay. o Rendering assistance in NARGA lecture rooms during office hours. o Providing management information regarding usage of rooms. o Providing a multimedia service to users during seminars, conferences, etc. o Managing NARGAs printers: general maintenance, stock management of paper and cartridges. Requirements: An ICT degree / diploma with two years relevant experience, OR a relevant ICT certificate with three years relevant ICT experience, OR four years relevant ICT experience. Strong, proven computer skills hardware and software. Demonstrated ability to solve problems innovatively. Proven analytical skills. A high level of accuracy. Sound verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work both in a team, as well as independently. Outstanding interpersonal relations. Candidates may be required to take aptitude, psychometric and proficiency tests. Recommendations: Any other IT-related industry qualifications. A -and/or N -qualification. Experience and basic knowledge of Linux. Experience in scripting in program languages such as PowerShell, Java and C++. Proficient in at least two official South African languages.
