Avon and Wiltshire Partnership (AWP) are looking for an exceptional person to provide leadership to deliver our vision for excellent care for people with a learning disability and autistic people in our specialist acute inpatient mental health service and outreach team.
AWP are working with SW NHSE to provide a new inpatient unit as part of the transformation of end to end pathways in the region. We aim to be a centre of excellence. The services are being designed and developed with clinicians and people with lived experience. We expect to open in 2025. Until then, you will be employed to work as a core member of the project team until opening.
You will be instrumental in the development, implementation and delivery of the clinical and operational model for the inpatient service.

Lead occupational therapist for the in-patient and community outreach service for autistic people and people with learning disabilities who require in patient mental health care or intervention to avoid admission. (Outreach)
Working with a rich multidisciplinary team you will be responsible for the delivery of high quality evidence based Occupational therapy. It is anticipated that you will have advanced knowledge and skills in working with this client group. Skills will include sensory interventions, and a full suite of occupational therapy assessments and interventions including intervention to improve physical health needs or goals. The work will be highly collaborative with the people using services and their families and supporters and you will have well developed communication skills, to work with this group and committed to lifelong learning.
You will lead a small OT team and work within the wider AHP leadership group in the unit.
This post could be a development role for the right candidate and training will be available.

Experience
You will be an experienced Occupational therapist with a range of post graduate experience relevant to this role which can include working in relevant community and physical health or education settings as well as mental health. You will have had experience working with complexity and across organisational boundaries to deliver tailored collaborative outcomes that support the person’s journey. You will be a confident communicator both producing accurate and informative reports and verbally communicating the occupational therapy perspective in a variety of settings.
Essential
HCPC registered occupational therapist
Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by further training, short specialist courses, to master’s equivalent level
Knowledge and skills
Advanced occupational therapy skills drawing and contributing to the evidence base, and used recognised models of practice.
Skills working with complexity in both physical mental health and autism and Learning Disabilities.
Skilled communication skills and the ability to rapidly adapt communication styles to meet individual needs.
Skills to embrace new knowledge and work within a cycle of continuous improvement.
Ability to lead a team and represent Occupational therapy within the unit and across the wider Trust.
