*Inpatient Specialty Doctor Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disabilities*

We are looking for someone who can bring effective clinical support, to develop, monitor and then provide ongoing evaluation of the new service in conjunction with the other members of the senior operational and clinical leadership team.
This is an exciting and ambitious programme that will deliver measurable benefits for those people with a learning disability and autistic people by providing the physical and clinical environment that supports patients and contributes to improved wellbeing.
The applicant will work as a specialty doctor on a 10-bed inpatient psychiatric ward for people with learning disability and/or autism, with co-morbid mental disorder. Duties include direct clinical care, such as ward rounds, physical and mental state examinations and supporting professional activities such as the monthly clinical educational programme.

Outputs from the programme:
* Improved care pathway for those with a learning disability and autistic people across community (inreach / outreach) and inpatient care.
* Improvements in the physical infrastructure to deliver better care and outcomes for service users, whilst aiming for a length of stay of less than twelve months.
* Reducing the requirement for out of area admissions.
* Improved care and inpatient experiences for people within the South West Region with a learning disability and/or autistic people.
* Treating people closer to home whilst reducing reliance on inpatient beds.
* Delivery of innovative solutions and improvements to the therapeutic environment and service model that delivers a positive impact to service users.
You will be part of a large multi-disciplinary team, with the opportunity to shape and develop the team to deliver consistently high quality care and treatment. You will also support the transition from our existing service to the new development. The new unit will be state of the art and has been carefully designed and developed with clinicians and people with lived experience.
*Person Specification*
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent.
* GMC registration.
Clinical Governance
* Commitment to involvement in on site programme of clinical governance.
CPD and Motivation
* Commitment to process of CPD.
* Ability to organise own learning/CPD.
Clinical Skills and KnowledgeEssential
* Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients.
* Writing comprehensive, clear medical notes.
* Ability to manage crises and act independently.
* Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients.
* Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
* Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Research
* Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.

* Ability to communicate with clarity in spoken and written form.
* Flexible approach, keen to accept new challenges.

Experience
* Has completed at least four years full-time postgraduate experience (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis)
* at least two of these years need to be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or
* the doctor has equivalent experience and competencies.
