Position Overview
Takes accountability for oversight and delivery of occupational health and medical services for Tronox Namakwa Sands. Oversees the design and delivery of Occupational Health and Occupational Hygiene programs. Acts as the primary point of professional contact with all relevant external health authorities, health professionals, regulatory bodies, employees, and contractors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Guiding and overseeing the implementation of the medical surveillance and control programme for Tronox Mineral Sands.
- Developing, authorizing, and maintaining policies, standards, protocols, procedures and/or codes of practice.
- Verifying the specifications of medical facilities and equipment necessary for the medical surveillance and control programme.
- Conducting the Man Job Specifications for all homogeneous exposure groups.
- Ensuring that the required medical surveillance/examinations, reviews and/or health certifications are conducted.
- Identifying and effectively treating occupational health-related injuries, illnesses, or diseases.
- Reporting to the Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources and other stakeholders.
- Reviewing ergonomic and hygiene evaluations of operational areas.
- Managing occupational health injuries, illnesses, or diseases.
- Liaising with OHS in reporting to Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA).
- Providing guidance to the Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (OHN).
- Keeping informed and providing advice and support to Company Management on health-related issues.
- Providing primary health care services.
- Managing all medicals and placement of workers in line with the Occupational Risk Exposure Profiles.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) (Mandatory)
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in occupational health in a mining setup.
- Appointed Medical Practitioner (AMP) training as recognized by the NNR.
- Registered by the HPCSA as competent to act independently as a medical practitioner.
- Code B driver’s license (Mandatory)
Knowledge & Skills
- Medical degree and relevant occupational health certifications.
Personal Attributes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
