Job Purpose:
The Food Handler is responsible for preparing and serving food items, ensuring that all food meets the quality standards set by the café. The role also includes maintaining a clean and organized kitchen area, assisting with inventory management, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
- Prepare food items according to the café’s recipes and standards.
- Ensure that all food is prepared in a timely manner and meets quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including all food prep areas.
Customer Service:
- Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Handle customer inquiries and special requests regarding food items.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality food.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in managing inventory by tracking food supplies and ingredients.
- Notify management when supplies are running low and assist in ordering as needed.
- Ensure that all food items are stored properly and safely.
Cleanliness:
- Follow all health and safety regulations when handling food.
- Regularly clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Dispose of waste properly and ensure the kitchen meets cleanliness standards.
Teamwork:
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen and café staff to ensure smooth operation.
- Assist with training new kitchen staff as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently.
Compliance:
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Comply with all food safety and hygiene regulations.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience in food preparation or in a similar role preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Basic math skills for measuring ingredients.
Working Conditions:
- The Food Handler will work in a kitchen environment, which can be hot and noisy.
- May require early morning, late evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Experience in a food service environment preferred.
