Job Purpose:
The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks, along with pastries and cookies. The Barista must be able to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining a positive customer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Coffee Preparation:
- Prepare and serve coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks.
- Ensure consistency and quality of each coffee drink prepared.
- Clean and maintain equipment, including espresso machines and grinders.
Customer Service:
- Greet all customers with a friendly and welcoming demeanor.
- Provide exceptional customer service by understanding customer needs and providing recommendations when necessary.
- Handle customer complaints professionally and resolve issues promptly.
Cash Handling:
- Process payments accurately using the cash register.
- Ensure that the cash register is balanced at the end of the shift.
- Follow company procedures for opening and closing the cash register.
Product Knowledge:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coffee products, brewing methods, and trends.
- Provide information about coffee blends, preparation methods, and various products offered in the store.
Inventory Management:
- Assist with ordering and restocking coffee beans, milk, and other supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify management when supplies are low.
Cleanliness:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee shop.
- Follow health and safety guidelines when handling food and beverages.
- Ensure that the work area is clean and sanitized throughout the shift.
Teamwork:
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operation of the coffee shop.
- Assist in training new employees when necessary.
Compliance:
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Barista or in a similar role preferred.
- Knowledge of coffee brewing methods and equipment.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Basic math skills for cash handling.
Working Conditions:
- The Barista will work in a café environment with a high volume of customers.
- May require early morning, late evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Experience in a café or food service environment preferred.
