Brook Street Recruitment is working on behalf of our client in Belfast to recruit a new full time and permanent Assistant Audit Manager to join their team.
Job summary
The assistant audit manager plays a senior role in the overseeing and directing of the firm's audit engagements. The assistant audit manager will ensure audit files are prepared for audit manager/audit partner review in accordance with the firm's audit methodology and meet all quality and compliance requirements. The assistant audit manager is expected to manage a portfolio of clients, including the effective and timely delivery of engagements in accordance with client requirements.
The assistant audit manager will also contribute to the firm's compliance with Audit Quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing and directing the budgeting, planning, co-ordination and control of audit engagements, with appropriate consideration of audit risk issues and accounting technical matters, in accordance with:
- the firm's audit methodology to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements,
- client requirements to ensure effective and timely delivery of engagements, and
- business requirements to ensure maximised recoverability.
- Review audit files prepared by the audit team ensuring:
- files meet statutory audit methodology compliance requirements,
- audit files are completed using the firm's audit software tool, and
- all audit working papers are completed to the required standard.
- Assist staff in the effective delivery of engagements, ensuring statutory compliance requirements are met and the delivery of timely, cost-effective service to audit clients.
- On occasion, subject to the needs of the firm, leading the audit team onsite may be required to ensure the smooth delivery of the firm's audit engagements.
- Report to the Audit Manager/Audit Partner on a timely basis:
- the progress of audit engagements, including early warning on issues that may impact on the delivery of engagements in accordance with agreed timetables,
- critical accounting and/or audit matters that require attention,
- Provide on-the-job training and mentoring for audit staff to develop auditing skills within the firm.
- Reviewing financial statements including disclosures to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards prior to the Audit Manager/ Audit Partner review.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements using the firm's accounts production software tool, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards for Audit Manager/Audit Partner review.
- Liaise with clients on accounting and audit technical matters including accounting treatment queries and providing advice on disclosure requirements.
- Prepare and deliver the Management Letter to be provided to the client, providing clients with value added advice including the identification of areas requiring improvement in the client's business processes and possible recommendations.
- Presenting audited accounts and other reports arising from the audit engagement to senior client management, audit committees, board meetings and/or annual general meetings.
- Assist the firm's leadership team in monitoring the effectiveness of audit services delivered, providing feedback and reflection on the quality of services, including the identification of training needs and high-quality review observations for enhancement of Audit Quality and the audit process.
- Stay informed of emerging accounting and audit technical developments.
- Stay informed of general business, economic and regulatory developments and their impact to the firm's audit clients.
- Preparing and negotiating fee proposals for existing clients and assisting in forming propositions for new business.
- Contribute to the firm's compliance with Audit Quality requirements including but not limited to:
- Periodical monitoring and reporting on the firm's System of Quality Management (ISQM1 and 2),
- Performing live file and deliverable reviews as Engagement Quality Control Reviewer,
- Performing cold file reviews as part of the firm's Internal Monitoring Programme (IMP),
- Performing root cause analysis (RCA) for significant audit quality matters,
- Developing remedial actions to address audit quality issues identified from the RCA process,
- Assisting Audit Managers and Audit Partners with preparations for the annual Professional Standards Review (PSR) process.
Key expectations for the post include:
- Thorough knowledge of primary accounting frameworks (FRS 102)
- Thorough knowledge of UK and Irish International Standards of Auditing (ISAs (UK) and ISAs (Ireland .
- Maintain professionalism and consistently demonstrate competence in undertaking tasks and duties.
- Act as a leadership role model, managing the audit team in such a way that processes, roles & responsibilities are clear.
