Position Purpose
To drive the process required to identify tolerable risk, provide assurance to the Transnet business environment, by ensuring that risk management is proactively and consistently applied and embedded into business processes.
Driving the desired behaviour and ensuring a sound and informed decision-making framework. This role ensures that the function is seen as a strategic enabler to achieving organizational objectives, drives a strong and healthy risk management culture; to improve resilience and be purposeful in achieving sustainable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, formulate, review, and integrate Enterprise Risk Management governance structures, processes, and systems into organizational decision-making processes.
- Ensure that strategic risks capable of threatening the achievement of organizational objectives are identified and managed while enhancing opportunities.
- Leverage Risk analytics to bring much-needed credibility to the risk value proposition.
- Partner with strategic business owners to develop and identify strategic risks.
- Develop strategies to ensure a strong and healthy risk management culture, including identification and supporting business to mitigate against emerging strategic risks.
- Periodic tracking and monitoring of risk performance across the organization to ensure that business commitments to the Shareholder Compact are realized.
- Ensure that the Risk Management plan is communicated and executed seamlessly across the organization.
- Design measures that can be implemented to ensure that there is an effective and consistent approach to managing strategic risks across the organization.
- Implement the risk management framework in accordance with the organizational strategy.
- Develop customized ERM-plans that are aligned to the organizational strategy and in accordance with the standards in the ERM-framework.
- Communicate ERM-plans to the ERM-specialists.
- Manage, in conjunction with risk owners across Transnet, the updating and enhancement of risk analysis by providing quantitative information to risk owners to agree on probable potential exposure (PPE) on the key risks.
- Ensure strict compliance with all measures identified by the risk management standards to mitigate risks through the assessment, monitoring, and reporting on the company’s risk profile within scheduled timelines.
- Take responsibility to manage the standardization of risk analysis techniques across the organization.
Qualifications and Experience
• Relevant Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) - includes areas of Compliance, Governance, and Risk Management.
• Postgraduate degree will be an advantage.
• Minimum 10-12 years’ experience in a large enterprise, of which at least 5 – 7 years at a senior managerial level, and knowledge of Risk Management systems.
• People management experience will be an advantage.
