MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Data Engineer is part of the Africa Business Intelligence Team which is responsible for the Africa Healthcare and Road Logistics Business Intelligence solutions. This specific position forms part of the Africa Regional BI Team. The role is responsible for the design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance and support of the BI Report and Data warehouse solutions in the Regional Africa Business Units, with focus on the DSV Healthcare BI User community, but will be expanded to include the Africa Road BI user community as well. The incumbent will be required to spend time with Business stakeholders and have an in-depth knowledge of underlying source systems. There will be close collaboration with IT developers and business users from various departments. The Data Engineer will participate in BI Architecture design sessions, as well as cross-business unit BI forums to ensure standardization and best practice implementation across the business units.
TERTIARY QUALIFICATION(S)
• University Degree/College Diploma in the field of computer science or Informatics along with work experience in related field - Essential
COMPUTER LITERACY LEVEL
• Intermediate/advanced MS Office Tools (Excel, Word, Visio, Teams)
Additional Computer Skills
• Microsoft’s Azure stack (ADF, Databricks, Azure SQL Database/Azure Synapse, Azure Analysis Services, DevOps) (required)
• Advanced MS SSIS Development (required)
• MS SSAS, Knowledge of Tabular Model development & maintenance, with DAX language experience. (required)
• Advanced Microsoft SQL experience (including SQL stored procedure development, SQL Query optimization) (required)
• Data Warehouse Design experience (required)
• Good knowledge in PowerShell Scripting.
• Good understanding of GIT methodology
JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS
• 3 – 5 years AZURE development experience
• 5 – 8 years BI ETL Development experience
• 5 – 8 years MS SQL experience (writing complex SQL queries, with ability to optimize SQL queries)
• Minimum 5 years data warehouse development experience
• A good understanding of BI Architecture principles “Ralph Kimball's methodology”

• Analysis Skills: proven ability for systematic and rational analysis of data or issues to identify the root cause of problems
• Industry experience: Experience working in the Logistics and/or Healthcare Industry, with an understanding of Supply Chain and Warehouse management systems will be a great advantage.
• Report Development Experience (Power BI)

• Good written and oral communication, with the ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in the Project to migrate the existing on-prem Data Warehouse to AZURE (Main Focus)
• Participate in collaborative designs sessions for the Africa Healthcare & Road Logistics BI solutions
• Assist with the analysis and documenting of BI requirements
• Assist with effort estimation for development and implementation planning.
• Perform data profiling on source system data
• Design, & Develop new and maintain existing Data Warehouse solutions
• Designs to be done in alignment with the principles, guidelines and standards.
• Performing quality control testing of BI Solutions before deployment to the production environment
• Provide adequate documentation for all design and development activities, as well as enhance existing documentation if necessary
• Support and assist business users by investigating data related issues and providing information related to the Africa BI Data Warehouses
• Assist with performance tuning and optimization of existing Africa BI Solutions.
• Adhere to BI best practices and existing technologies, assist in reviewing and enhancing best practices
• Transfer knowledge actively to the other team members as well as the operations & support team
• Participate in Global and local Africa BI architecture design sessions and forums.
