The Opportunity
Our Emergency Management team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for an Emergency Management Advisor to join the team on a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent basis in our busy Queenstown office.
The purpose of this role is to support the Queenstown Lake District Council's (QLDC) planning and delivery of Civil Defence and Emergency Management services to their communities.
As an Emergency Management Advisor, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining emergency preparedness and planning in partnership with Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC).
- Developing and supporting community response plans in partnership with community leaders.
- Working with the Group Training & Capability Advisor to plan, deliver and monitor a training programme that incorporates the needs of staff, volunteers, and partner agencies.
- Ensuring that emergency management equipment and systems, including communications, facilities, and all related equipment in QLDC, are in a constant state of readiness and fit for purpose.
- Contributing to the effective management of response, recovery, reduction, and readiness.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A qualification in emergency management/development, organisational management, planning and development, or community development. Sector experience and other relevant qualifications will also be considered.
- Experience within the CDEM sector, community development, or a related field.
- Experience in developing and maintaining effective strategic relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and communities.
- Demonstrated planning, coordination, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated competent decision-making skills in emergencies.
- An understanding of community issues, challenges, and opportunities.
- A passion for the development of community resilience.
