The Supply Chain Manager will assist in strategically sourcing and managing the supply chain for precious metals within Refinery environment. The ideal candidate will oversee the end-to-end supply chain process for precious metals, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards and ethical sourcing practices. Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Certification in supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPIM) is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in supply chain management, with a focus on sourcing and handling precious metals or similar high-value materials.
- Experience with international logistics, customs regulations, and the handling of high-value commodities.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain processes and best practices, including ethical sourcing.
- Solid understanding of trading, market dynamics and legislation related to precious metals.
- Familiarity with industry regulations related to the handling of precious metals.
- Excellent negotiation, communication and customer relationship skills.
- Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions.
Duties:
- Supply Chain Strategy: Develop and implement a supply chain strategy for sourcing precious metals aligned with business objectives.
- Sourcing and Procurement: Manage the sourcing and procurement of precious metals, establish and maintain vendor relationships, and negotiate contracts to secure advantageous terms while ensuring ethical and responsible sourcing practices. Including supplier site visits from a responsible sourcing point of view.
- Manage Relationships: Build and manage strong relationships with suppliers and customers to ensure smooth operations and foster trust and collaboration. Ensure customer and supplier queries are dealt with promptly either from a technical, logistical, trading and/or payment perspective.
- Trading Insight: Understand and incorporate market trends and trading practices into procurement strategies to optimise costs and secure favourable deals.
- Logistics Management: Oversee the secure transportation and distribution of precious metals to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
- Inventory Control : Monitor and manage inventory levels of precious metals to optimise stock, minimise costs, and meet production and demand needs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments such as production, trading, finance, and compliance to align supply chain activities with business goals.
- Performance Metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to the precious metals supply chain and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to the supply chain of precious metals and develop mitigation strategies.
- Compliance: Ensure that all supply chain activities comply with South African regulations, international trade laws, and responsible sourcing standards.
- Stakeholder Communication: Inform customers and suppliers of the legalities of dealing in gold and precious metals.
- Technology Utilisation: Implement and leverage the ERP, software and tools tailored for the tracking and management of precious metals.
