Role description
- The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key executive position within our clients business and plays a crucial role in
- overseeing the day-to-day operations and ensuring the efficient functioning of the organisation. As the COO, you
- will be part of and work closely with the executive team to develop and implement the relevant strategies and
- processes aligned with the overall goals and objectives. Your primary responsibilities will be to ensure
- soundness for all functions reporting to you, optimise processes, manage resources, continuous improvement,
- governance, assist with company growth and mitigate risks. Your leadership, strategic vision and strong operations
- experience combined with business acumen will be essential in driving the business's growth, improving operational
- efficiency and fostering a collaborative work environment. As COO, you will play a critical role in the smooth
- functioning and growth of the company. Your strategic leadership and related experience will contribute
- significantly to achieving our objectives and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.
Primary responsibilities
- As COO, you will play a critical role in overseeing inter alia the following functions: Delivery; Risk management;
- PMO; Finance and Human Resources of the Buiness. You will work closely with the executive team to
- implement business strategies and ensure operational efficiency. Your primary responsibilities will be to ensure
- soundness for all functions reporting to you, optimise processes, manage resources, continuous improvement,
- governance and mitigate risks. Your responsibilities inter alia will include:
Operations strategy and execution:
- o Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the Companies mission and
- business objectives.
- o Oversee daily operations of the company, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in all
- processes.
- o Identify and address operational challenges, ensuring sustainable and scalable business
- operations.
- Process optimisation: Identify areas for improvement and streamline operational processes to
- enhance efficiency and productivity.
Leadership and management:
- o Lead and mentor a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of excellence and
- continuous improvement.
- o Collaborate with the executive team to set and achieve company goals and objectives.
- o Oversee daily operations, including transaction processing, customer service, risk
- management, and compliance.
- o Ensure all operational processes are efficient, effective, and compliant with industry
- standards and regulations.
- Resource management: Oversee resource allocation, including financial, human and technological
- resources to support business operations effectively and relevant policies.
Compliance and risk management:
- o Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- o Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate operational risks.
Performance management:
- o Implement KPIs and metrics to monitor operational performance and make data-driven
- decisions to improve efficiency.
- Cross-functional collaboration:
- o Foster collaboration between departments to promote seamless workflow and effective
- communication.
Payment industry expertise
- o Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies and regulatory changes in the
- payments sector.
- o Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including financial institutions,
- regulatory bodies and technology partners.
- o Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance payment processing
- capabilities and customer experience.
Financial management:
- o Develop and manage the operational budget, ensuring financial sustainability and
- profitability.
- o Monitor key financial metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
Skills Required
- Leadership skills: Demonstrate ability to lead and motivate teams with a focus on driving operational
- excellence, inspiring and guiding teams towards operational success.
- Strategic vision: Ability to develop and execute operational strategies in alignment with our longterm vision.
- Financial acumen: Solid financial analysis skills to assess the impact of operational decisions on
Bottom line.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance requirements affecting the
- banking and fintech industry.
- Communication skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with
- stakeholders at all levels. Clear and effective communication to ensure seamless information flow.
- Change management: Experience in leading and managing organisational change and transformation
initiatives.
- Decision-making: Making well-informed decisions and handling complex situations effectively.
- Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing market conditions and operational challenges.
- Collaboration: Working collaboratively with Heads Of Department and achieving company goals.
- Problem solving: Analytical and creative problem-solving skills to address operational issues.
- Emotional intelligence: Understanding and managing emotions in interacting with others.
- Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills in dealing with partners.
Qualifications and experience
Education: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field. An MBA or advanced degree is an advantage.
Experience:
- o At least 10 years in a leadership position, 2-3 of these preferably in a COO or related role in
- operations management, preferably within the Fintech, payments/card/transactional
- industry.
- o Fintech, including payments and card experience: Strong understanding of the
- Fintech/payments/card/transactional, banking sector, and its products, services and
- operational challenges.
