This career opportunity is available for a Junior Data Analyst for Santam’s Claims Department who will be based in Hill on Empire.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As a Data Analyst, you will be responsible for collecting, processing, and analysing data to provide actionable insights and support data-driven decision-making within the organization. You will work closely with the claims operational team and other departments to extract, transform, and load data, conduct statistical analysis, and generate reports.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and a passion for leveraging data to solve business challenges.
WHAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE?
Data Collection and Preparation
• Gather data from various sources, including databases, spreadsheets, and external APIs.
• Organize insurance-related data from various sources, such as claims records, policy data, and external databases.
• Clean, transform, and preprocess data to ensure data quality and consistency.
• Create and maintain data pipelines for automated data extraction and updates.
• Ensure data accuracy and completeness, performing data cleansing and transformation as necessary.
Data Analysis
• Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies.
• Conduct statistical analysis, including hypothesis testing and regression analysis (advantage).
• Use data visualization tools to create charts, graphs, and dashboards for reporting.
Report Generation
• Generate regular and ad-hoc reports for stakeholders, summarizing key findings and insights.
• Communicate results and analysis in a clear and understandable manner.
• Collaborate with team members to create customized reports tailored to specific business needs.
Data Quality Assurance
• Monitor data integrity, identifying and addressing data quality issues.
• Implement data validation and quality control processes to ensure accuracy.
• Collaborate with IT and data engineering teams to resolve data-related issues.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
• Maintain clear and organized documentation of data analysis procedures and findings.
• Share knowledge and insights with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Provide training and support to non-technical team members on data tools and techniques.
Compliance and Security
• Ensure data privacy and security standards are maintained in data handling and analysis.
• Stay up to date with industry best practices and compliance requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Analysis, or a related discipline.
• Experience with machine learning, data mining, or advanced statistical techniques would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of big data technologies, such as Hadoop or Spark, would be advantageous.
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and database management systems would be advantageous.
• Certification in data analysis or related field would be advantageous.

• Ability to create clear and meaningful data visualisations.
• Basic understanding of statistical concepts, data modelling, and data language.
