Our client, a firm of Chartered Accountants, based on the North Coast of Durban, currently seeks an experienced Tax Assistant.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Liaise with clients regarding the tax deadlines, requesting tax certificates, schedules, rental files, tax representation/engagement letters.
- Assist with provisional tax calculations and email clients for their figures when requested by the Partners.
- Liaise with the client regarding updates of personal particulars/banking details.
- Compile tax calculation and schedules from client information, i.e. employee income, investment income, rental income, business income, medical aid expenses, retirement annuity deductions and asset & liability schedules.
- Conduct capital reconciliations.
- Complete income tax returns on SARS e-Filing.
- Ensure calculation agrees with SARS calculation.
- Attend to telephonic queries with clients regarding taxes.
- Attend to SARS audit queries related to own portfolio.
- Perform tax calculations and ensure that provisional taxpayers make top-up payments where necessary.
- Assist Tax Administrator with:
- Uploading tax clients' supporting documents on e-Filing;
- Assisting with tax filing, checking and submitting tax returns, capturing tax returns and assessments on Greatsoft;
- Opening new tax files.
- Facilitate tax clearance certificates.
- Act as back-up for Tax Administrator.
- Complete Trust tax returns - adhoc.
- Assist with Deceased Estate tax returns for the Partners when requested.
- Track client base to ensure deadlines are met and adhered to.
- Billing clients.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric with Maths and/or Accounting.
- Tax Diploma preferred.
- Minimum 5 years experience in tax calculations and completing income tax returns for individuals.
- Tax administration experience essential.
Competencies Required
- IT - Excel/Word/SARS e-Filing/GreatSoft/GreatTax/Taxware.
- Ability to work well under pressure.

- Willingness to study for professional qualifications.
- Knowledge of taxation legislation and ability to research legislation.

Package & Remuneration
R240 000.00 per annum (cost to company) - negotiable
