Role Description
This is a remote internship role for a News Reporter at Who Owns Africa. The News Reporter will be responsible for covering the 2024 South Africa elections, reporting, writing news articles, press releases, and conducting research. As a part of the team, the News Reporter will contribute to the overall mission of promoting accurate and nuanced understanding of Africa through their reporting and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Cover breaking news events in South Africa, with a focus on the 2024 elections
- Write news articles on a daily basis, adhering to deadlines and editorial guidelines
- Conduct research to provide accurate and well-informed reporting
- Attend press conferences, events, and interviews to gather information and quotes
- Collaborate with editors and fellow reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage of news events
- Pitch story ideas and angles that showcase diverse perspectives and voices
- Contribute to multimedia reporting by providing photos or videos to accompany news articles
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism practices in all reporting
- Adapt to the fast-paced nature of news reporting and be willing to work flexible hours when necessary
Qualifications
- Strong skills in News Writing and Journalism
- Experience in reporting and conducting research
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to create engaging and informative news articles
- Proficiency in press release coverage
- Knowledge of current affairs and African politics
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
- Experience in multimedia reporting (photography, videography) is a plus
