We are looking for a talented Junior Environmental Manager in Cape Town, South Africa to join our dynamic Project Development team. As a Junior Environmental Manager within JUWI, reporting to the Senior Environmental Manager in the Project Development Division, you will be responsible for environmental site identification, feasibility evaluation, permitting and supporting the Project Development Team through all stages of project development to ultimate realization of projects. Your contribution to the energy transition
You can look forward to the following tasks: Actively involved in the entire project development process from site selection to completion of development Internal project planning development, scheduling, prioritisation and engaging external environmental consultants and specialists as required Conduct detailed environmental screening to inform technical assessments of sites Appoint EAPs and manage EIA, WULA and other environmental permit processes Support the Development Team with environmental challenges during the project development phase of wind and solar projects and attend occasional site visits Perform technical due diligence of projects, as appropriate Work with local authorities to obtain planning permits, licenses and clearances as well as other necessary documentations such as planning and construction permission, environmental impact assessments and grid connection studies with internal and external service providers Close interaction with specialized departments, in particular concerning system design, construction, procurement, business development, project acquisition and project management Project commercial procurement processes, budget and management of invoices for specific projects Provide regular updates on project progress and record keeping Stay abreast of environmental legislations and continuously evaluate compliance obligations Keep documents, permits, licenses relating to environmental policies & regulation up to date and renew permits where required Liaising with the respective statutory organisations (all spheres of government) Ensure the respective project permits, licenses, and approvals are obtained and validities maintained Other duties as assigned by the Senior Environmental Manager

You impress us with these qualifications and experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Law or similar At least 2- 3 years of experience working in a similar position. Thorough understanding of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE) Environmental Authorisation assessment process; ideally with respect to renewable energy projects Understanding of the International Environmental and Social standards, including Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards Able to perform research, write articles and present to an audience Knowledge of the various renewable energy guidelines in South Africa including knowledge of the REDZ, Strategic Transmission Corridors, bird, and bat monitoring guidelines etc. Must have a sound knowledge of environmental legislation Desirable Attributes: Motivated, driven and ability to self-manage and work well in a team Strong administrative skills and skilled at report writing and analysis of technical reports Proven ability to work within a small project development team and across business units Proven ability to solve problems creatively Proven experience of successfully managing multiple projects within budget and on schedule Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize competing time demands Previous experience on wind projects will be a plus Proven ability to speak and write fluently in English Ability to travel often Must have a sound knowledge of environmental legislation In possession of a valid South Africa Code 08 driver’s license Good understanding of utility regulatory environment and renewable energy business
