About the Role
Based in Mogalakwena Mine, Mokopane, South Africa. The Senior Field Engineer will provide field engineering services, primarily in the mining, metals, and heavy industries, at customer sites. The Senior Field Engineer is a 2.13.3.1 appointment in terms of MHSA. The role requires a high degree of competence in instrumentation used in highly automated plants.
Key Responsibilities
Engineer
1. Provide technical services as it relates to routine and moderately complex maintenance and/or repair of control systems and their components.
2. Diagnose and troubleshoot issues as they relate to control systems and their components.
3. Communicate with engineers at customer sites on technical questions and specifications.
4. Provide after-hours support in person and/or over the phone.
5. Provide technical information and data to Administrative Assistant for the creation of quotations and work scopes. Information includes job repair requirements, parts for order and use, and associated cost.
6. Complete necessary service, time tracking, and expense documentation.
7. Maintain tools and test equipment properly.
8. Communicate with the company account managers regarding the status of work as it applies to their customers.
9. Communicate with sales personnel regarding customer questions.
10. Identify and assist with repair and manufacturing training needs.
11. Disseminate best practice in instrumentation aspects.
12. Analyze and identify problems on the current systems and infrastructure.
13. Schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks.
14. Ensure that all completed work meets the company’s Standards and complies with company’s ISO Quality System.
15. Communicate clearly, concisely, and with accuracy to employees, customers, and vendors.
Safety
1. Identify high risk and safety critical areas.
2. Observe all safety procedures and use proper safety equipment as needed.
3. Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment at all times.
4. Operate and maintain equipment in a safe manner at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Engineering related Degree – BSc Engineering, BEng, BTech or an equivalent combination of relevant education
2. Qualified instrumentation trade
3. Registered as Professional Engineer with ECSA or Registered as Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA will be advantageous
5. 7 years engineering experience as instrumentation technician, field service and/or similar industrial environment with focus on automation and advanced instrumentation systems.
6. 5 years relevant management experience
7. Project management experience
8. Mining, metals, and/or automation industry experience preferred.
9. Advanced knowledge of Allan Bradley programmable logic controllers (PLC) and fault finding
10. Advanced experience in SQL systems and reporting
11. Advanced experience in HMI systems
12. Advanced experience in communication protocol (Modbus, Canbus, Ethernet, etc.)
13. Knowledge of similar programable devices from ABB and Siemens
