Job Description:
Farms, are leader in truffle farming and the cultivation of exotic and functional mushrooms for health and wellness, is seeking an experienced Bio scientist with expertise in fungi and mycelium. This is an exciting opportunity to oversee our laboratory and manage spore production while contributing to cutting-edge research in mycology.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee daily operations of the laboratory, focusing on spore production and cultivation of mycelium.
• Conduct research on exotic mushrooms and functional fungi, contributing to the Farms' mission to promote health and wellness through natural products.
• Collaborate closely with the agricultural team to inoculate trees with truffle spores, monitor tree growth, and ensure successful truffle production over time.
• Develop and refine cultivation methods for truffles, ensuring optimal conditions for both tree growth and truffle development.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments, procedures, and results, ensuring scientific accuracy and compliance with safety regulations.
• Monitor and ensure the health of the fungi and mycelium cultures, identifying any potential issues and troubleshooting as necessary.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in mycology, fungal biology, microbiology, or a related bioscience field.
• Extensive knowledge of fungi, mycelium cultivation, and spore production techniques.
• Experience with the cultivation of truffles or other fungi that interact with plant systems, particularly in a horticultural setting.
• A strong understanding of laboratory management and experimental techniques in fungal biology.
• Familiarity with the process of inoculating trees with fungal spores and the long-term monitoring of truffle growth.
• A passion for horticulture and working in a sustainable farming environment.
• Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills, and an ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong record-keeping, analytical, and scientific writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience with truffle cultivation or other high-value fungi.
• Knowledge of functional and medicinal mushrooms, and their applications in health and wellness.
• Experience with the preservation and scaling of spore cultures for commercial purposes.
