PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To ensure maximum plant/equipment availability to enable the company to attain its goals and maximise profits and to be fully competent in PLC Programming and SCADA configuration, control systems and networks to meet equipment control requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- A completed NQF Level six (6) qualification in light current/process control (National Diploma/S4).
- A trade as an Instrument Mechanician is essential.
- Minimum of five (5) years experience as an instrument technician.
- Foreman Development Programme is essential.
- Technical experience in a process instrumentation environment.
- Technical knowledge of industrial instrumentation.
- Experience in the latest technology and processes in the instrumentation field as well as HAZOP studies and PC Systems.
- Knowledge of process control systems, SCADA configuration, networking, piping, instrument diagrams, installation standards, and chemical processes, i.e., chemicals used and effect on instruments.
- Computer literacy (MS Office) essential; SAP exposure will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, i.e., OSH Act.
- Sound communication, project management, coaching and mentoring, problem-solving and technical report writing skills essential.
- Basic knowledge of financial systems, Quality and ESG framework.
- Medically fit for the BMR.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advise instrument technicians and mechanicians on technical matters.
- Liaise with different internal and external customers/suppliers to ensure that all parties are informed about any program changes required by process.
- Investigate new technology and develop plans in terms of advancements to improve plant availability to ensure company competitiveness.
- Organise the instrumentation section by maintaining spares and spares levels, analysing tasks at hand and assigning them effectively to utilise resources and arrange renewal commissioning and setting standards to ensure proper installation of instruments.
- Conduct inspections in area of responsibility.
- Assist the technical/projects department in project design and actual projects (i.e., planning, commissioning, and implementation of projects as well as PLC programming and SCADA requirements).
- Provide technical expertise to the Plant Engineer/Manager and attend to HAZOP studies.
- Monitor and ensure that all standards are adhered to.
- Communicate with supervisors on a daily basis to obtain daily information on breakdowns, etc.
