To lead, drive, and implement strategies to enhance value creation and effective management of operational risks; fostering a culture of risk awareness and working collaboratively with business units in IAM in fortifying our first line of defense and resilience of the operational processes. To lead and drive the effective implementation of the Risk Governance Framework, including the administration of Risk governance policies, procedures, and mandates.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive operational risk management framework in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Operations Risk Control function in alignment with the overall risk management strategy of IAM and the Group.
- Identify, assess, and quantify operational risks arising from IAM business unit processes, systems, and external factors.
- Collaborate with IAM business units to identify and evaluate operational risks associated with key processes and activities.
- Implement risk assessment methodologies to quantify and prioritize operational risks.
- Design and implement effective control measures to mitigate identified operational risks.
- Work closely with IAM business units to ensure that control measures are embedded in operational processes.
- Establish a robust incident reporting mechanism for the timely identification and escalation of operational incidents.
- Conduct thorough analysis of operational incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions and reporting to relevant governance committees on Operational Risk matters.
- Develop and maintain operational risk policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal controls.
- Provide guidance to business units on the implementation of these policies.
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of operational risk control initiatives.
- Lead efforts to optimize operational processes, driving efficiency and effectiveness.
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and best practices.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align operational risk control initiatives with the overall business strategy.
Additional Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to enhance the value proposition of the Ops Risk Control function.
- Explore opportunities for business growth while maintaining a robust risk management framework.
- Establish and maintain strong governance structures to support effective risk management.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate risk control initiatives into business operations seamlessly.
- Oversee the execution of risk control plans, ensuring they are effectively implemented across all operational processes.
- Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of control measures and address any identified gaps promptly.
- Work closely with business leaders to understand their operational processes and embed risk control measures seamlessly.
- Provide combined assurance services on Ops Risk for Risk and segments as part of the Integrated Operational Framework for IAM.
- Ensure governance documents are tabled at the appropriate forums/committees, and where necessary carve-out requested and approval is obtained from the appropriate sanctioning body.
- Conduct ongoing assessments (via targeted reviews or continuous involvement) of the Ops Risk governance architecture to ensure it remains relevant and efficient and is aligned to the Group Standards and industry/best practice.
- Recommend improvements and provide solutions based on the outcome of assessments or new developments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degrees and Advanced Diplomas (NQF Level 07) in Business Commerce, Corporate Governance, Risk Management, or related field.
Additional Minimum Qualifications or Professional Memberships
- Masters or CFA or FASSA or CA.
