Job Purpose: Powder Coater
To ensure high-quality application of powder coatings to metal and other surfaces, in line with production schedules and customer specifications. This includes surface preparation, operating powder coating equipment, curing, and final inspection.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation:
- Clean, sandblast, or otherwise prepare surfaces before coating to ensure proper adhesion of powder.
- Mask or plug parts as required to protect from overspray.
Powder Coating Application:
- Operate manual or automated powder coating equipment to apply a consistent, even layer of powder to parts.
- Set and monitor powder coating parameters such as spray patterns, air pressure, and electrostatic settings.
Curing Process:
- Operate ovens and other curing equipment to bake or cure the coated items according to material and product specifications.
- Monitor temperature and timing of the curing process.
Quality Control:
- Inspect coated products for defects such as thickness inconsistencies, overspray, or undercoating.
- Rework parts as necessary to ensure quality standards are met.
- Perform routine tests, such as adhesion, scratch resistance, or gloss checks, to verify coating performance.
Maintenance:
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of powder coating equipment, spray guns, booths, and ovens to ensure optimal operation.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors.
Experience:
- Proven experience as a Powder Coater or similar role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with electrostatic powder coating techniques and equipment operation.
- Experience in surface preparation and finishing processes.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of powder coating materials, types, and applications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and production schedules.
- Basic understanding of spray gun setup, air pressure settings, and oven temperature control.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and handle heavy materials (up to insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs ).
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, heat, and powder dust.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and reach.
