We are now looking for two Port Health Officers to act, advise on and where appropriate, take appropriate enforcement action across the full range of Port health issues.
This is an initial 3-month contract, inside IR35, with a view to a further extension.
Principal responsibilities:
- You'll lead and represent the Port Health Service in a specialist area of expertise within the Port Health discipline by keeping abreast of legislation, European and central Government inactivities and professional best practise.
- Supervise stakeholders operating at the Border Control Posts for which you'll be responsible.
- To enforce legislation aimed at preventing the importation of unfit, unsound, unwholesome and other non-compliant assignments of food or feed.
- Carry out administrative duties
- Oversee, train and monitor technical support staff
- Act as an Official Fish Inspector
Key skills/experience required:
- Must have a car and full UK Driving License
- Previous experience as an Environmental Officer within a Port Health Environment is highly desirable but candidates with no previous Port experience will be considered
- Experience of involvement and liaison with other professional institutions and outside bodies
- Experience with IPAFFS and PHILIS is desirable
Qualifications:
- Must have an Environmental Health degree or Masters
- To be Chartered
- A relevant qualification e.g. Food Safety
