Our Client is seeking a Pollution Control Officer on an initial 3 Month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Working Hours: 37 Hours Per Week, 09:00 - 17:00
Job Purpose:
- To identify, investigate, monitor and rectify pollution in the Borough.
- To contribute to the development of policy as required in the various fields relating to the activities of the post.
- In particular, to carry out pollution-related duties of the section, and, more generally, duties which reflect his/her seniority and experience, with minimum supervision and direction.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- The implementation of the Council's Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy, together with a formulation of advice on the remediation of known areas of contaminated land in the Borough.
- Identification, investigation and monitoring of the Borough's air, land, noise and water pollution. Taking acoustic measurements and recordings where appropriate interpreting gathered data and taking formal and informal action to secure environmental improvement in appropriate cases.
- The processing of applications for permits under relevant legislation, including the inspection of premises, preparation of documentation, and the writing of permit conditions. The re-inspection of relevant premises to ensure compliance with conditions and making the necessary variations.
- The identification of areas which would benefit from environmental improvement in terms of pollution reduction, preparation of such improvement strategies in conjunction with others, and their implementation.
- Support the ongoing assessment of air quality in the Borough and the implementation of any new air quality strategies.
- Undertaking the necessary work to ensure that all performance indicators and targets in the Divisional and Corporate Plans are complied with.
- Carrying out a satisfactory programme of environmental monitoring, inspection and re-inspection ensuring that consistent action is taken.
- The enforcement of environmental health legislation specifically related to the specialist section.
- Liaising with consultants as required on all aspects of the section's duties and responsibilities.
Skills and Experience:
- Current or past experience in related work.
- An understanding of investigatory, administrative, enforcement, working with people, health or environmental issues.
- Experience in investigation and enforcement, including the initiation of prosecutions.
- Experience in monitoring equipment/regimes and/or software.
- Evidence of working with groups, people, projects etc. involving meetings, planning, presentations.
- Driving - Full Licence (E), no endorsements (D).
- Evidence of written work, and document organisation, including use of IT.
- Experience in providing advice and guidance to organisations, work colleagues, elected members and members of the public on legislation and policies.
- Able to communicate with clarity and confidence. Use of IT.
- Able to organise, and prioritise workload.
- Work on own initiative, problem-solving, taking responsibility, exploring creative solutions to problems, and lateral thinking. Working sometimes independently but within parameters.
