We are looking for a Health and Safety Officer to join our client's team, a construction company based in Cape Town. You will be responsible for ensuring that our construction sites are safe and that all workers follow health and safety guidelines. Your role will involve monitoring safety practices, identifying potential hazards, and making sure we meet all safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain health and safety policies and procedures according to South African laws. Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments on construction sites. Ensure that workers use the correct safety equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols. Investigate accidents and incidents, find out what went wrong, and suggest improvements. Provide safety training, site inductions, and regular safety talks for workers and contractors. Work with site managers and subcontractors to ensure safety measures are followed. Keep records of safety audits, inspections, incidents, and training sessions. Ensure that emergency plans and first aid procedures are in place and known to all staff. Assist with health and safety audits from authorities and ensure compliance. Promote a strong safety culture and encourage everyone to be involved in safety programs. Qualifications & Requirements: National Diploma or similar qualification in Health and Safety or related field. SAMTRAC or other safety certifications (preferable). At least 3 years experience in a health and safety role, preferably in construction. Good knowledge of health and safety laws and construction safety standards. Ability to carry out risk assessments and manage emergency procedures. Strong communication skills to train and advise staff on safety practices. Valid drivers license and own transport. First Aid and Fire Fighting certifications are a plus. Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail and responsibility. Ability to work well with a team and lead safety initiatives.
