VACANCY
The following position is currently available at Sernick Feedlot on the farm Liebenbergstroom outside the town of Edenville (situated about 60km from Kroonstad) in the Free State Province .
ASSISTANT FEEDLOT MANAGER
This position is a vital hands-on role in the daily management of the feedlot and reports directly to the Feedlot Manager.

- You have a strong technology and technical background and understand how to manage and lead within a feedlot operation, working under stressful conditions for long hours.
REQUIREMENTS
- At least a Grade 12 qualification; an Agricultural Degree or Diploma will count in your favour.
- At least 3 years previous management experience in a junior management capacity in a feedlot environment is essential.
- Must be versatile, self-motivated, and very practically minded in all aspects of feedlot operations.
- Hands-on experience of processing cattle in a processing facility.
- Good knowledge of animal health.
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (weather conditions, etc.).
- Ability to work well under pressure, and in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent people skills and must be able to motivate and lead a team of dedicated workers.
- Must be able to motivate and train workers who have no or little knowledge of the cattle industry.
- Good proficiency in Microsoft Office – especially MS Excel.
- Valid Code EB (Code 8) driver’s license.
- Hardworking with an excellent professional work standard.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary function of this position will be:
- Daily planning and execution of tasks.
- Manage and advise on the health of animals.
- Develop production plans in conjunction with the Feedlot Manager.
- Follow through on plans and requirements for inputs, raw material and feeding schedule, as well as processing of animals.
- Follow up on the processes within the various stages of production.
- Ensure efficiency to maximize production capacity.
- Continuous monitoring of production all the way through to final production ensuring compliance with quantity and quality requirements.
- Generation of various reports including slaughter, daily production, and other relevant periodic summaries.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations including but not limited to equipment, processes, production, microbial contamination, and biosecurity.
- Stock take, including variances and control measures.
- Basic maintenance assistance with the maintenance of feedlot camps, feeder wagons, electronic equipment such as tablets used for feeding, and tractors.
- Ability to adapt timeously to changing order/customer requirements.
- The scope of the function is not limited to a specific role and can be adapted to meet operational requirements whereby you will cross-functionally support others within the Group.
