Our client, a reputable and well-established manufacturer of corrugated cartons, is looking to recruit a Fitter for their factory based in Port Elizabeth.
Short Summary of the purpose of the role:
To ensure the total mechanical maintenance and repair of all machinery, buildings, and premises. This includes modifications and upgrades of machinery to enhance productivity and plant efficiency.
Academic Qualifications Required:
• Essential:
o N2 Mechanical Qualification.
o Trade Tested Fitter or Fitter and Turner.
• Desirable:
o N3 Mechanical Qualification.
Salary:
• Basic Salary: R34,000 + 13th cheque (taxable monthly or in December).
• Medical aid (50% company contribution, optional).
• Group insurance, retirement fund, and funeral coverage (company contributes).
Essential Experience:
• Corrugating industry experience (e.g., Mpact, Corroseal, or similar).
• Packaging equipment expertise if corrugating experience is unavailable.
Additional Information
• 40- hour week No weekends unless it’s required. Sometimes a Saturday which is overtime.
• Shift Pattern: Candidate must be comfortable working independently during night and afternoon shifts.
• 3-shift system (7 AM - 3 PM, 3 PM - 11 PM, 11 PM - 7 AM).
• Peak season: May to September (3 shifts). Off-season: 2 shifts.
• Transport: Company transport provided for afternoon shifts. Own transport required for morning shifts.

3 years' relevant experience:
• Packaging equipment
• Post-qualification experience.
• Steam experience
• Predictive preventative maintenance.
• Fault finding.
Desirable:
• 5 years' post-qualification experience.
• 3 years' hydraulic and pneumatic experience.
Medical Requirements
• General Medical, Drug and Alcohol screening, Eye and Hearing tests, and Biological Screening.

1. Mechanical Maintenance
• Conduct total mechanical maintenance of machinery and planned services.
• Attend to breakdowns and new installations.
• Monitor machinery performance.
• Manage parts orders, ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
• Complete administrative tasks efficiently.
• Maintain machines to Like New standards for optimal plant efficiency.
2. Modifications and Upgrading
• Implement regular mechanical modifications and upgrades.
• Suggest and execute continuous improvement ideas to ease future maintenance and workload.
3. People Management
• Lead and manage subordinates' performance and development.
• Address daily issues, provide training, and foster a positive work attitude.
• Promote labour flexibility and maintain plant efficiency.
4. Safety and Housekeeping
• Ensure occupational safety and maintain housekeeping standards.
• Conduct safety inspections and enforce safe working practices.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations to minimize injuries and maintain a safe environment.
