We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Support Officer to provide essential support in protecting public and animal health. This position involves working closely with Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and other key stakeholders to ensure compliance with UK, NI, and EU legislation. *Your Duties:*
* Apply checks in accordance with UK, NI, and EU legislation to protect public and animal health.
* Handle Port Health emails, taking relevant actions such as calling containers for examination or releasing them, and liaise with EHOs when required.
* Respond to telephone enquiries from agents, importers, shipping lines, and other agencies, referring to EHOs or other authorities when necessary.
* Code manifests for vessels arriving at PoB, applying documentary holds, conducting identity and physical checks on containers.
* Perform documentary and seal checks at the ferry terminal and assist EHOs with physical checks and high-risk foodstuff sampling.
* Manage the destruction or re-dispatch of unsatisfactory consignments, ensuring they go to the correct facility.
* Handle transhipment release requests, ensuring proper documentation and scheduling.
* Perform administrative tasks including record management, using systems such as PHILIS, TRACES, and UKFSS.
* Conduct ship sanitation inspections and take water samples to test for legionella or drinking water quality.
*Your Profile:*
* Full, current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland, and access to a vehicle for official business.
* A third-level qualification in food science, food technology, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
* At least one year of experience in food law enforcement or food safety management systems (two years for more senior applicants).
*Other:*
* Ability to work with allergens, such as fish, peanuts, or tree nuts, as part of daily duties.
* Must comply with council and departmental policies including health and safety, equal opportunities, and safeguarding.
*Additional Information:*
* Full time, Temporary.
* Shift pattern, 08:00-20:00.
* Port of Belfast Location.
