Job Description
An Assistant Consultant is required to complement the Cape Town Environmental team. The candidate will primarily provide support on environmental projects including environmental authorisation procedures (Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Water Licensing, and Waste Licensing etc.), stakeholder engagement / public participation, and compliance auditing. The candidate will also be required to support the other specialist teams within WSP including air quality, water services, contaminated land and geotechnical services as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivery of Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management Plans and Compliance Auditing projects
- Field Work will form a significant part of the role
- Involvement in local projects primarily, and international projects as required
- To work both independently and in a team
- Good working knowledge of the South African environmental legislation
- Accountability for own tasks and deliverables to required deadlines

Qualifications
- An Honours or higher degree in a relevant environmental discipline. A Masters is preferable.
- A minimum of 1 years work experience; however, applicants with up to 5 years’ working experience in an environmental consulting environment may be given preference.
Key Competencies and Generic Skills:
- Between 1 and 5 years’ experience in Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management Plans and Compliance Auditing projects
- Experience in the renewable, industrial and/or mining sector
- Good working knowledge of the South African environmental legislation
- Understanding of broader environmental and social issues (i.e. air quality, waste management, ecological, social, etc.)
- Ability to travel in Sub Sahara Africa (outside of South Africa) if required
- Technical report writing skills, producing professional reports in fluent English
- Project management skills
- Must be computer literate
- Able to work independently
- Ability to pay attention to detail
- Good organisation skills
Strong preference will be given to:
- Candidates who are able to read, write and converse in French.
- Candidates that have published papers
