Process Engineer
Our client, a leading Chemical Manufacturing company based in KwaZulu Natal, is looking to fill the position of Process Engineer.
Purpose of the Role:
To define, maintain and develop new processes, new capital projects and optimisation of plant and processes to improve:
- Health, Safety and Environmental considerations
- Productivity
- Energy efficiency
- Lean manufacturing processes (5S, 8W etc.)
To support the Engineering Manager in the development of the site growth strategy with particular emphasis on process and engineering improvements necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, review and audit plant performance, processes, and operating procedures, reveal inefficiencies and plan and deliver a programme of improvements to continually improve site operational standards, ensuring compliance with Group policies at all times.
- Collect and collate data from manual operations and automated systems to provide insights into reasons for deviations and enable improved decision making to improve in particular site quality performance.
- Facilitate the introduction of new processes to plant scale and ensure ongoing, successful, and robust manufacturing.
- Develop, configure, and optimise manufacturing processes from inception through to start up and certification.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with manufacturing colleagues to ensure effective data management, implementation of improvement programmes and knowledge transfer.
- Assess processes, take measurements, and interpret data through statistical analysis.
- Present proposals for improvements to manufacturing colleagues, persuading, and influencing colleagues of the associated benefits and methodology through coaching and mentoring.
- Devise and deliver specific training programmes to improve the process knowledge and understanding by developing best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of outputs.
- Liaise effectively with contractors and colleagues to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of projects.
- Be available after normal working hours to assist with troubleshooting and resolving any possible issues that may arise on-site.
- Lead site sustainability initiatives.
- Engineer and project manage all stages of Capital Investment Projects from initiation to beneficial operation, taking an active consultative role in site HSE matters and provide a technical advisory service to operations.
- Be involved and manage various CI projects.
- Manage, update, and maintain any documentation related to various processes across the site including but not limited to PLC panel drawings, control philosophies and P&ID’s.
- Manage and oversee electrical contractors and automation contractors on-site.
- Participation in equipment selection, preparation of positional drawings and training.
- Perform any other tasks reasonably requested to meet business objectives.
- Behave in a manner in line with the Company values, to participate fully in the consultative and democratic process within the community and support the decisions of the community bodies.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 Senior Certificate
- Degree in Chemical Engineering
- 1 – 3 years’ experience of improvement projects within a manufacturing environment
- Experience of operating effectively within a matrix environment in a manufacturing site.
- Experience of operating on a MHI site and familiar with OHSACT (advantageous)
- 2 – 5 years’ experience of improvement projects within a manufacturing environment (advantageous)
- LEAN and/or Six Sigma training and/or certification (advantageous)
