Purpose of the Role To co-ordinate the smooth and efficient operation of the plant, ensuring safety, quality and production goals are met. Roles and Responsibilities Production Supervises and coordinates the activities of the plant to ensure safety, quality, and production goals are met or exceeded Ensures all machinery in the plant are in perfect working condition Assist in resolving unscheduled breakdowns. Performs factory walk-abouts to check if all quality and food safety related records are adhered to, and sign off Ensure usage of approved reporting templates to record maintenance issues Identify non-conforming equipment to ensure that it is not accidentally used. Ensure that all equipment has the correct identification. Adhere to hygiene Code of conduct and Integrated Management systems Policies. Communicates and disseminates information among production staff Leads problem solving sessions to solve production, quality and safety issues Monitors machine parts, production supplies and production equipment to maintain their good working order Recognises waste streams and minimises waste generation through prudent use of materials, proper disposal and segregation Understands emergency procedures, equipment, and systems, and is able to implement contingency plans Works to reduce waste, spoilage and downtime Creates, implements and ensures adherence to shift schedule. Shift schedule will include work station assignments/rotations, employee training,employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, back-up for absent employees, and shift rotations. Reviews shift schedules to ensure optimisation of set up changes Coordinates production start-ups, shutdowns, and changeovers Evaluates products to ensure compliance with established quality control standards. Performs factory walk-abouts to check if all quality and food safety related records are adhered to, and sign off. Check and address food safety and quality related deviations. Quality Control and Assurance Products are in line with specifications Supports the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the integrated and food safety systems Health Safety and Environment Maintains a safe and secure work environment by correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating safety meetings, looking out for hazards, and investigating accidents Ensures plant policies and procedures, job safety analysis, and standard operating procedures are adhered to Implements and maintains 5s work culture People Management Supervises Production Technicians and Shift Leaders, and ensures the quality of work meets with performance expectations Assigns tasks and responsibilities to the Production Technicians and Shift Leaders to ensure effective workflow Reviews/inspects work carried out by subordinates Recognises training needs and facilitates the on-the-job training and development of subordinates skills to ensure a continued high level of production and morale Conducts employee performance reviews Coordinates with Human Resources to ensure appropriate staffing levels. Minimum Requirements Minimum of a First Degree or Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 7 years experience, 5 of which must be in a similar role within the manufacturing industry Minimum of 3 years experience in a Supervisory role Equipment Maintenance and Management Quality Control and Assurance Production Planning and Control Root Cause Analysis Expertise
