Job Description
The role will be a consultant within the air quality team based either in the Johannesburg or Durban office, although working on projects nationally and internationally, with a focus on emissions inventory compilations and dispersion modelling. The role will also provide exposure to ambient air quality monitoring and climate change.
WSP Africa also runs projects outside of South Africa, presenting travelling opportunities and access to a diverse range of air quality projects. From a global perspective, WSP Africa collaborates closely with our UK, Canadian and Australian businesses, presenting unique project opportunities to our local Air Quality team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compile emission inventories, inclusive of greenhouse gas inventories.
- Compile Atmospheric Impact Reports, Air Quality Impact Assessments and Air Quality Management Plans.
- Support Atmospheric Emission License applications and renewals.
- Compile Annual Reports and NAEIS submissions.
- Plan and prepare for fieldwork, and meet all health & safety obligations, incorporating WSP and client requirements.
- Undertake fieldwork, including deployment and collection of dust fallout buckets, passive and active ambient air sampling, and acoustic monitoring, as and when required.
- Process and format ambient monitoring data and compilation of various forms of monitoring reports.
- Project management, including financial, health & safety, and project team management.
- Business development and strong client relationship management.
- Compilation of proposals.
- Support broader WSP E&E business.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in dispersion modelling
- Minimum BSc Honours in a relevant field of expertise (MSc preferable).
- Emission inventory compilation and dispersion modelling in AERMOD and CALPUFF
- Proposal writing.
Key Competencies and Generic Skills:
- Knowledge of the South African environmental/air quality legislation.
- Technical report writing skills to produce professional reports in fluent English.
- Technical skills to manage, verify and analyze data.
- Competency in Geographic Information Systems.
