Senior Tour Consultant
A luxury Destination Management Company is looking for a Senior Tour Consultant in Cape Town. The role involves assisting in designing tour packages by skillfully negotiating and contracting rates to convert inquiries and quotes into bookings profitably, with 60% of your time spent on quoting and booking confirmations and 40% on administrative and operational matters.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Result Areas:
- Understand clients’ needs and requirements – know what to sell when, where, and how.
- Develop product knowledge to assist with achieving key business objectives through on-the-job training, attending prescribed roadshows, conducting product training, and understanding tour routes and products.
- Ensure timely responses to clients, carry out tasks, and provide feedback to relevant parties such as Travellers, Suppliers, Agent partners, Sales Support Team, Line Managers, and the Managing Director.
Key Performance Areas
- Create and maintain profitable sales.
- Communicate accurate product knowledge and information, including pricing and costs to clients.
- Offer and update clients on options and the reasoning behind your recommendations.
- Apply effective selling and tracking techniques to close every potential sale or inquiry.
- Ensure correctness of costs, margins, nett, and gross selling by checking with suppliers first.
- Reduce transaction turnaround times and ensure effective communication with suppliers and the team.
- Document all important or monetary-related communications in writing.
- Create product understanding with clients and use marketing skills to win business.
- Know the product mix and preferred partnerships.
- Shop for rates, even with preferred suppliers, to ensure best pricing.
- Understand the intricacies of products, hotel types, flight possibilities, transfers, tours, etc., and be able to upsell.
- Use approved suppliers first and ensure contracts are in place.
- Be aware of competitors' products and pricing and be able to counteroffer and improve upon them.
- Ensure clients are aware of promotions, specials, and product developments.
- Consult and support the Online Marketing and Information Administrator regarding website and marketing mailers.
- Build correct itineraries and costing for appropriate selling periods.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with sales reps (domestic and international) to work together in closing sales.
- Be competent in using available resources and operational requirements.
- Double-check all invoicing on files prior to submission to clients or accounts for final payment and closure.
- Check files timeously prior to arrival to ensure all travel services are booked, confirmed, and details communicated to suppliers and clients.
- Aim for error-free and hassle-free travel experiences.
- Ensure management decisions are carried out and provide feedback.
- Provide feedback to management regarding general office and client issues.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and terms and conditions.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Experience in the Inbound Tourism sector, preferably for a DMC/Inbound Tour operator and B2B – B2C experience with inbound will also be considered.
- Minimum 2 years within an inbound tour operator environment.
- Knowledge of Southern African countries and trends.
Package & Remuneration
Market-related salary and uncapped commission.
