ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT
- Responsible for site maintenance team, activities, development and performance.
- Direct and mentor the site R&M staff, identify people/team skill strengths and weaknesses and implement training programmes to improve their performance.
- Manages site assets and spare-parts systems.
- Ensure compliance to site ISO9001 systems with respect to maintenance activities.
- Key Project Engineer responsible for the developing & implementation of the Furnace Rebuild project (2026).
- Responsible for maintaining furnace for optimum OEE.
- Ensure site plant assets are maintained for optimum OEE.
- Responsible for developing & improving engineering information systems e.g. ePAC.
- Responsible for developing, monitoring and managing all engineering contractors' performance against set standards.
- Formulates and implements initiatives to reduce energy, CO2 emissions & wastage.
EHS MANAGEMENT
- Ensure site complies with engineering regulations under SA law and clients standards.
- Assists with the development of local EHS standards.
- Ensure EHS compliance is entrenched in all site R&M activities.
- Responsible for site security processes.
- Ensure 5S housekeeping standards are implemented.
- Ensures site emergency teams are trained & capable.
- Leads continuous improvement targets as an outcome of regular EHS audits and reviews.
- Investigates site incidents and performs RCAs.
- Corrects EHS deviations within agreed timeframe.
- Takes personal proactive role to develop a site “Safety Culture.”
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Sets clear targets/objectives for self and team.
- Monitors individual and team performance against set targets/objectives.
- Provides feedback in a manner that encourages personal development.
- Identifies engineering team and individual skill gaps.
- Implements training programmes to close gaps.
- Takes personal proactive role to develop a site “Can Do” culture.
- Implements disciplinary procedures when required.
COST / BUDGETING
- Develop and manage site annual maintenance budget.
- Develop and manage company capital expenditure plan.
- Develop site 5-year capital program.
OTHER
- Responsible for site security systems.
- Assist with site IT systems.
- Backup for Durban site Production manager.
- Assist with implementing new ISO standards for the site in the future.
Requirements
- BTech or BEng Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years maintenance engineering experience in chemical/glass industry.
- Code 08 or higher driver's licence.
- Siemens Scada/PLC troubleshooting knowledge is an advantage.
TECHNICAL & PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE
- Proficiency in English language verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Excellent proficiency in computer applications e.g. Word, Excel, SAP, etc.
- Knowledge of the OSH Act, environmental laws, ISO 9001 systems.
- Understanding of leadership, people management and HR/IR systems & processes.
- Good engineering knowledge & skills, including electrical & instrumentation.
- The following skills would be an advantage:
- Furnace rebuild and hot repair experience.
- Financial and budget management knowledge.
- Project management knowledge.
- Contractor control.
- Experience with computer-based engineering systems.
Criteria
Important notes: Must have chemical manufacturing sector experience, stable track record of candidates staying at a company for a minimum of 3 years.
Salary
R 600 000 – R 900 000
