We seek a dynamic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Project Manager: Database Management to be part of our health economics and epidemiology research and implementation science portfolio. The successful candidate will serve as the Project Manager: Database Management for Indlela’s Behavioural Hub (B-Hub) and Behavioural Lab (B-Lab). 2 RO is the first-of-its-kind behavioural science unit in South Africa. The objective of 2 RO is to build capacity to design and test nudges and other behavioural solutions to improve the effectiveness of health services and achieve better health outcomes in South Africa and regionally. The B-Lab is a medium through which to bring together public health scientists, economists, psychologists, government stakeholders, and implementing partners to engage in nuanced research to inform behavioural interventions that can be easily integrated into health programming. Our B-Lab offers computer stations to conduct econometric games, psychological surveys, and tests. It will also offer an opportunity for human-centred design with opportunities for co-creation and qualitative investigations. The position is based at HE 2 RO’s head office in Johannesburg but may require travel within Sub-Saharan Africa. Overtime/weekend hours and working in rural areas and/or under-resourced circumstances will be required from time to time. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Programming of Health Economic/Economic games in oTree or Qualtrics
- Designing, developing, and modifying data infrastructure to ensure the maintenance and quality of the B-Hub and B-Lab database
- Developing and maintaining infrastructure to ensure the operation of the B-Hub and B-Lab
- Maintaining data management plans and instructions for operating the B-Hub and B-Lab databases
- Management of the B-Hub Cohort (including contact management and scheduling)
- Developing standards of operation for data management in the B-Hub and B-Lab
- Create and generate reports for the B-Lab tests and B-Hub dashboard
- Assess system performance and make recommendations for hardware, software, and data storage improvements
- Perform other tasks and contribute to organizational management as needed.
Requirements
- Honours (Computer Science, Social Science or related field)
- Experience working in a Monitoring & Evaluation, Computer Science or related field
- Experience in Python programming
- Two to three years of experience in database management, troubleshooting software and hardware issues
- Good written and communication skills
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- If not a South African citizen, the candidate should have a valid work permit for South Africa in hand.
