A vacancy exists for a Scrum Master within the Micro Merchant Division – Software Engineering department, in Century City, Cape Town .
A Scrum Master is a facilitator and coach for a Scrum Team. They are responsible for ensuring the team follows the Scrum process and removing any obstacles that may impede progress. This is not a manager or decision-maker but instead serves the team by helping them to be more effective.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage each project’s scope and timeline and facilitate scoping and estimation by teams.
- Actively structure and drive product increment (PI) planning for your squads.
- Coordinate sprints, retrospective meetings, daily stand-ups, and other Scrum ceremonies.
- Take ownership of the development work pipeline to ensure predictable delivery.
- Establish, monitor, and maintain sustainable team velocity.
- Helping the squad focus on creating high-value increments that meet the Definition of Done.
- Coach team members in Agile frameworks and guide development teams to higher scrum maturity.
- Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration.
- Be the point of contact for external communications (e.g. from customers or stakeholders).
- Work with product owners to handle backlogs and new requests.
- Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles or impediments that occur.
- Help teams implement changes and ad hoc requests effectively.
- Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint.
- Help build a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the product and enjoy working on it.
- Building psychological safety as well as accountability within your teams.
- General management of schedule, milestones, dependencies, and resource allocation, including cross-team, cross-project, and customer delivery dependencies.
- Provide status reporting, develop key metrics, identify, and mitigate risks, manage stakeholder expectations around delivery timelines.
In order to be considered for this position, the following requirements must be met:
- Matric
- 3-5 years’ experience as a Scrum Master.
- 2-5 years previous experience working in a software organisation using Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.).
- Proven exposure to software development environments and typical SDLC and processes.
- Excellent knowledge of Scrum techniques and artifacts (such as definition of user stories, automated testing, backlog refinement).
- Excellent communication and servant leadership skills.
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability.
