Role: Internal Systems Engineer

Job Purpose:
As a Advania Internal Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for providing end user application and workstation support to local and remote staff, as well as management and administration of our internal systems, applications and platforms. You will provide a mixture of hardware, software, desktop and network support both in person in Cape Town and over email, Teams chats, calls and screen shares.
Responsibilities:
- Provide remote and deskside support on Advania internal systems and applications to the end user’s satisfaction.
- Installation, configuration and deployment of desktops, laptops, peripheral equipment and software for new and existing users.
- Hardware and software support for desktops, laptops and peripheral equipment.
- Management of endpoint security tools such as Anti-Virus.
- Maintain an asset inventory of all hardware and software.
- Ensure compliance with security policies through user awareness and guidance of security best practices per our compliance requirements (e.g. ISO-27001, Cyber Essentials).
- Reporting and managing risks to the end-user experience, productivity or systems.
- Management and administration of internal systems and server-related administrative tasks.
- Log incidents, requests and changes using the Advania IT Service Management platform and ensure all issues are resolved in the targeted SLAs.
- Help support, train and mentor other team members including sharing methods or tricks learnt and problems solved.
- Be an ambassador for the Internal Systems team in the respective location and champion Internal Systems policies and procedures.
- Will be expected to visit and support our smaller offices in the UK.
- System maintenance or upgrades.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a 2nd line desktop and infrastructure support engineer.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as approachable.
- Microsoft 365
- Azure Active Directory
- Exchange Online
- Microsoft Intune (Including Application Package management)
- Windows 10/11
- Microsoft Office applications
- Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop
- Process and automation focused.
- Particularly good technical understanding of current leading technologies, suppliers, and industry terminology.
- Responding appropriately to, and effectively resolving, incidents, queries, or complaints.
- Security conscious and actively considers IT security risks.
- Awareness of existing and new technologies within the industry.
- Able to prioritise under pressure and work to deadlines.
- Ability to self-manage time and workload effectively, including project work and advanced troubleshooting, providing proactive updates.
- Take ownership of projects from start to finish working with an architect sponsor.
- Find solutions to problems through research and 3rd party engagement only escalating to more senior members when required.
- Excellent decision making, judgement, planning and organisation skills.
- Flexible, calm, and approachable, ‘can do’ professional attitude.
- Solid customer skills understanding urgency and business priority.
- Ability to work well within team, supporting and mentoring other team members.
- Contributes towards the team’s corpus of knowledge by writing (and keeping current) documentation, procedures and guides for general staff while informing others.
- Ability and willingness to work outside of core hours to troubleshoot critical business impacting issues and undertake planned and emergency maintenance work.
- Continuously maturing your skill set in line with evolving technologies. Undertaking technical training and obtaining associated accreditations.
