SGS Matrocast is seeking to fill the position of Senior Material Testers on various sites in the Gauteng and other regions.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a reliable, honest, and hardworking individual who is competent in all civil engineering laboratory tests and has an appetite to grow within the industry.
Job Description
- A Senior Materials Tester is responsible for supervising and/or carrying out and taking responsibility for testing for all tests that the employee is deemed competent for, strictly in accordance to prescribed methods.
- A Senior Materials Tester is responsible for cleaning up the site or workshop after tasks are completed or at the end of the day, ensuring it is free of all consumables used to perform the job (masking tape, tins).
- A Senior Materials Tester must adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- A Senior Materials Tester is responsible for orally reporting any deviations, irregularities, and non-conformances.
- A Senior Materials Tester is responsible for performing any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the authorized site supervisor/laboratory manager and regional manager.
- A Senior Materials Tester is responsible for performing all field and laboratory work including sampling, calculations, and performing test methods accurately.
- Complete timesheets accurately on a daily basis.
- Ensure discipline within the assigned department.
COMPULSORY COMPETENCIES
- Sampling and preparation experience advantageous.
- Administration experience will be advantageous.
- Fieldwork (densities, layer/stockpile sampling, manufacture and handling of concrete cubes, DCP, Ring and Ball test (road surfaces), Sand Patch, On Site Viscosity tests, Sampling of Asphalt and Bitumen).
- Competent and qualified to perform all tests in all laboratory divisions including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete/aggregate.
- Perform all calculations related to the tests mentioned above.
- Control laboratory activities such as quality control under supervision.
- Physically able and willing to work with, move, and pick up samples as required.
Qualifications
Grade 12 / NQF4 or an additional three years relevant experience for each year of schooling below grade 12.
Knowledge, skills, and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning.
- Language: Proficiency in English (Read, write, speak).
- Computer literacy in Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Must be competent and comfortable with the SANS and THM 1 test methods.
- Driver's License for Field Work positions.
