Purpose:
To manufacture, repair, and modify press tooling to meet company standards while ensuring high quality, precision, and efficiency. The Toolmaker will work on tooling for an automated press line and will be responsible for the fabrication and maintenance of various tools used in the production process.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience & Education:
o Fully qualified Toolmaker with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the medium to heavy press tooling field.
o Completed formal apprenticeship or equivalent training in toolmaking, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
o Experience with automated press lines and high-speed production environments is preferred.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
o Strong knowledge of press tooling design, construction, and maintenance with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and
blueprints.
o Proficiency in the operation of precision machinery (e.g., CNC lathes, mills, surface grinders, EDM, and manual tools).
o Experience with measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges) and knowledge of tolerance levels and quality
control standards.
o Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems and tool design software is advantageous.
Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting:
o Ability to quickly identify tooling issues and implement effective solutions to minimize production downtime.
o Strong attention to detail, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting and repairs.
Communication & Teamwork:
o Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and production staff.
o Strong teamwork skills, able to work in collaboration with others to meet production goals.
Health & Safety Awareness:
o Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
o Ability to work in compliance with company health and safety policies.

Key Responsibilities:
Tool Repair and Maintenance:
o Inspect and troubleshoot press tools, diagnosing wear, defects, and malfunctions.
o Perform necessary repairs, modifications, and adjustments to tooling promptly to reduce downtime on the press line.
o Maintain tool life and ensure tools are properly maintained for peak performance.
Modification and Improvement:
o Recommend and implement design improvements and modifications to tools and production processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste,
and increase tool longevity.
o Provide feedback to engineers and production managers on potential improvements to tooling, production techniques, or machine setups.
Quality Control:
o Ensure all tooling produced meets quality standards and complies with internal and external specifications.
o Conduct regular checks of tooling for wear and tear and perform necessary preventive maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
o Record and report any tool-related issues or defects to the Toolroom Supervisor and take corrective action as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of tool maintenance, modifications, repairs, and inventory.
o Prepare and maintain documentation for new tool designs, modifications, and repair procedures.
o Collaborate with the production team to ensure effective use and tracking of tooling in the press line.
Health and Safety Compliance:
o Adhere to all company safety procedures and standards while working with tools, machines, and press equipment.
o Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and tool damage.
o Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all tools are properly stored and accounted for.
Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with operations teams, and the Toolroom Supervisor to resolve tooling issues and ensure efficient production runs.
o Provide support and guidance to less experienced team members in toolmaking best practices.
Working Conditions:
• Full-time position.
• Based in the Toolroom, working with press line tools and machinery.
• Regular exposure to machine noise, dust, and occasional exposure to oil or other workshop materials.
• PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will be required, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.
