Job Title: Reliability Engineer

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To improve the reliability of critical assets in order to deliver optimal value to the organisation. This is achieved through the implementation of the reliability engineering elements of the asset management system, as well as a rigorous and systematic analysis of asset health and performance, physical failures and component reliability data. Based on this information, the RE identifies and defines reliability improvements and compiles business cases to motivate them, based on the value of improvements. The RE is the advisor and support to Engineering Management for fact-based decision-making.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- B. Eng degree or National Diploma (Electrical or Mechanical) is essential
- Government Certificate of competency (GCC) is essential
- At least 5 years post-qualification engineering experience in heavy engineering, with 3 years in a mining environment is essential
- A post-graduate qualification in Reliability Engineering or Asset Management is advantageous
- CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) is advantageous
- Experience in managing a maintenance team, albeit in an acting position is advantageous
- Reliability Engineering Experience would be an advantage
- Equipment knowledge operation and failure profiles
- Reliability engineering principles and practices
- Asset management principles and practices
- Range of condition monitoring techniques and their application
- Valid medical certificate is essential or be medically fit to obtain such a certificate
COMPETENCIES:
- Structured problem solving
- Data processing and analysis using Excel
- Effective communication (written and verbal)
- Planning and organizing projects
- Calculate component reliability (MTBF or F(t))
- Interpreting a set of asset management KPIs
- Computer literate and fluent in MS Office
- Advanced Excel Skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate asset criticality according to the Impala standard
- Facilitate the development and optimisation of asset tactics, for approval by the relevant Operations Engineers and Engineering Manager
- Facilitate spares criticality and associated stocking decisions and stock levels
- Monitor the performance, condition and reliability of key assets to identify opportunities for improvement
- Establish and coordinate focused improvement (FI) activities on site (define FI triggers, lead complex FI projects, create a RCA capability and track FI results)
- Quantify the value of proposed improvements and compile business cases to motivate and justify them, based on their return on investment
- Use life cycle costing to support financial decision-making, e.g. end-of-life repair/replace decision or new asset selection
- Do RAM analyses and specifications for new capital projects or installations
- Comply with all HSSE and Engineering systems and standards to minimize risk
