Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician - (2701.2)
SGM is seeking a full-time Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to join our SUE Team. The SUE Team specializes in performing existing utility investigations and utility coordination to support our engineering team and clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with Project Managers, Surveyors, and Utility Owners to complete existing utility investigations in accordance with the ASCE 38 Standard and Colorado's SUE law (prior/existing knowledge not required).
- Use of geophysical equipment to locate underground utilities in the field.
- Perform UNCC 811 ticket requests and utility owner records research.
- Outreach and coordination with utility owners for existing facility records/maps.
- Computer office tasks for pre and post field work (reports, exhibits, and plan production).
- Provide CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting) support for deliverables.
- Field oversight of Utility Test Hole (AKA potholing) investigations.
- Occasional travel to job sites throughout Western Colorado (including some multi-night stays).
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
- Prior utility, engineering, and/or construction related experience.
- Ability to work independently, detail-oriented, self-starter, & team-minded.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and the ability to learn and use new software.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to work outside and physically handle utility equipment (up to 50 pounds in weight), and traverse varying terrain.
Additional Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications:
- 3+ years of utility experience.
- Proficient usage with pipe & cable locators, GPR, and other geophysical equipment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Bluebeam (PDF Reader).
- Familiarity with design drawings, utility mapping records, and ProStar Point Man software.
- Survey field work experience.
- CAD, engineering, or construction related college degree.
- Familiarity with the ASCE 38 Standard and/or Colorado SUE Law.
- Strong math, computer, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the geography and culture of Colorado's Western Slope.
