Reporting to the Group Tax Controller
The successful candidate will need to ensure that Group VAT compliance is adhered to and provide support with Tax compliance functions within the tax department.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing VAT Returns
- Reviewing and reconciling VAT accounts
- Assisting with VAT audits and reviews
- Assisting with SARS and general tax queries
- Identifying VAT processing errors and resolving queries accurately and timeously
- Preparing VAT reasonability calculations and reconciling annual VAT balances
- Providing VAT training and communicating changes in legislation to the clerks processing invoices and expenses
- Resolving VAT queries for Group and providing VAT advice where applicable
- Providing support with the general tax compliance functions within the tax department
- Preparing and submitting the monthly EMP201 submissions on SARS e-filing
- Assisting with completing corporate tax returns and tax calculations
- Completing DWT (DTR1 & DTR2) dividend tax returns and Withholding tax returns for the Group
- Identifying tax risks and tax efficiencies within the Group
- Assisting with year-end tax calculations
- Maintaining Tax Asset registers for Group companies to ensure alignment with SARS tax rates
- Preparing monthly statutory reports for Statistics SA etc.
- Assisting with the financial year-end audit requirements within the tax department
Desired Experience & Qualification
Requirements:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Financial Accounting or Diploma in Taxation/Accounting or studying towards an Accounting or Tax degree/diploma
- A diploma in VAT or equivalent certification will be advantageous, showcasing specialized knowledge in VAT compliance and procedures
- 3+ years experience in VAT or similar financial role, demonstrating a strong understanding of VAT principles and regulations
- Accounting software package experience (Sage 300 Accpac advantageous)
- Must have experience on SARS e-filing
- Experience in processing accounting records and compiling financial information
- Sound knowledge and experience in the application of the Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act and dealings with SARS
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
