Chief Safety Officer
ire Resolve is currently seeking a Chief Safety Officer to join our client's mining operation based in Gauteng. The Chief Safety Officer will play a key role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and promoting a culture of safety excellence throughout the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and initiatives, as well as overseeing safety training and compliance.
Responsibilities - Manage Health and Safety at Palesa Coal
- Carry a 2.17.4 legal appointment as per the MHSA (Chief Safety Officer)
- Formulate and implement Health and Safety strategy at the Mine Establish and enforce an effective health and safety culture in the organisation
- Formulate and manage Health and Safety Budget
- Ensure effective stakeholder engagement process is in place
- Investigate and address all health and safety complaints, incidents and accidents.
- Ensure continuous improvement on the health and safety management Systems.
- Conduct, facilitate and review risk assessments (Baseline, Issue-based and Mini-HIRAs)
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Oversee safety training programs and ensure employees are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and rectify potential hazards.
- Investigate incidents and accidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance indicators and report on trends and areas for improvement.
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and implement continuous improvement strategies.
Requirements: - BTech / National Diploma in Safety Management
- COMSOC 1 and 2
- Knowledge of Health and Safety systems – Implementation and maintain.
- Drivers License
- Must have Coal industry experience 7 years in Opencast and process plant
- Strong knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Proven ability to develop and implement safety policies and programs.
- Experience in incident investigation and corrective action implementation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Willingness to travel to various mining sites as required.
