Senior Quantity Surveyor

Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our projects across Southern Africa. The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing budget calculations, project deadlines, adhering to the governing rules and regulations, and performing proper client and employee relations actions. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates.

Duties & Responsibilities

Successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):

Preparation of cost feasibilities, approximate estimates, cost planning, Bills of Quantities, Specifications and Schedule of Rates all in accordance with relevant standards.
Management, preparation and administration of procurement advice, tenders, tender reviews and advice.
Management, preparation and administration of various contract forms to both consultant and contractors.
Management, preparation and administration of Interim valuations, Contractors’ claims and settlement of Final Accounts.
Management, preparation and updating of standard cost databases and profiles.
Management in the preparation of effective change control during the pre-contract stages and post-contract stages.
Management in the preparation of contract variations to review with senior staff.
Management in the preparation of financial reviews in accordance with the senior members of staff’s requirements.
Preparation of interim valuations throughout the life of a project.
Preparation and agreement of final accounts.
Preparation of contract and dispute advice.
Support senior members of staff in their role as Site Agent/Engineer and Contracts Manager.
Reviewing the cost information prepared by senior staff and identifying any errors for correction.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

A degree/diploma in Quantity Surveying/Construction Management/Building Science.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a QS within the construction industry , managerial experience would be advantageous.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be a South African Citizen or in possession of a valid work permit.

Knowledge and Skills

Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word & Outlook).
Ability to carry out instructions issued by Quantity Surveyors, Site Agents and Engineers.
Ability to read, understand and organize BOQs.
Demonstrate effective project management skills in all tasks.
Ability to compile income and expenditure reports .
A good understanding of building materials .
Must have a working knowledge of CCS estimating and planning modules.
Working knowledge of the OHS Act , and Construction Regulations .
Good working knowledge of various conditions of contract specifications (e.g. FIDIC, GCC, NEC & JBCC).
Strong attention to detail.
Good understanding of feasibility studies .
Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work as part of the team, while exercising own judgment.
Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines.
