Introduction
Mintek is seeking a graduate engineer to conduct research into advanced control systems and optimisation strategies for minerals processing and metallurgical plants. This individual will contribute to the development of world-leading advanced process control solutions that are deployed in the industry, both in South Africa and globally.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
- Conduct research into advanced process control solutions, including modelling complex processes.
- Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialization;
- Play a support role in research projects and the development of products from that research;
- Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget;
- Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency;
- Actively participate in training, guidance and motivation supplied to junior staff. Participate in team debates and technical discussions;
- Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences;
- Conceptualise, design, execute, analyse and troubleshoot with guidance from senior personnel;
- Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division’s interests
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE - Engineer: B.Eng. Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical, or B.Sc Honours in an applicable field, e.g. physics or applied mathematics. Candidates must be willing to study further towards an M.Eng/M.Sc and PhD in a field aligned with Mintek’s research. An M.Sc or PhD in a field related to this post is preferred.
- Must be familiar with MATLAB or Python (prototyping of algorithms)
- The following skills/knowledge will be advantageous:
- Computer programming in C , C# or VB.NET
- Numerical analysis, solving differential equations
- Modelling of complex systems including mechanical, chemical and/or thermodynamic aspects.
