Purpose of the Role:
The Ethics and Compliance Counsel for Fuels is responsible for implementing and maintaining the Group’s Ethics and Compliance Program. This role focuses on promoting ethical conduct, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the Fuels division on an global scale to align with both international and regional ethical and compliance standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a thorough understanding of Bureau Veritas’ global ethical standards, policies, and guidelines. Facilitate induction and refresher training for new and existing employees worldwide, covering essential ethical principles and enhancing familiarity with both Group-wide and regional policies. This includes the Code of Ethics, Business Partner Code of Conduct, Manual of Internal Policies, Due Diligence Policy, among others. Plan and execute annual training sessions for newly appointed directors. Act as a key resource for ethical consultations, serving as a point of contact for all regional and country offices. Engage proactively with regional and country teams and the global network to support their objectives and ensure alignment with ethical standards. Assist in the preparation of the Group’s Annual Compliance Campaign. Contribute to investigations by documenting proceedings and assisting in the creation of relevant reports. Collaborate with the Group’s Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy Department on various issues, including compliance updates and data privacy/GDPR matters.
Ensure compliance with global sanction regulations and embargoes by: Screening: Implement and oversee comprehensive screening processes for transactions, partners, and entities to ensure compliance with applicable sanctions and embargoes.
Training: Develop and deliver targeted training programs for employees on sanctions and embargoes, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities in adhering to these regulations.
Action Plans: Create and manage action plans to address any identified risks related to sanctions and embargoes, including corrective measures and compliance strategies.
Monitoring: Regularly monitor and review transactions and business activities to detect any potential violations of sanctions and embargoes.
Reporting: Maintain accurate records and report any incidents of non-compliance or breaches related to sanctions and embargoes to the appropriate authorities and internal stakeholders.
Advisory: Provide expert guidance on sanctions and embargoes to ensure all business activities are in strict adherence to regulatory requirements. Monitor and report on global ethical trends, including sanctions, human rights, and anti-corruption issues, to ensure adherence to Group standards. Ensure compliance with the Group’s ethical policies and procedures. Track and report on instances of policy non-compliance or potential violations of laws or ethical standards. Continuously promote the Group’s ethical culture and “Zero Tolerance Policy” across all global operations.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
Educational Background: A law degree from a reputable university, with a background in legal or compliance practice, auditing background with requisite experience may be considered.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a legal or compliance role, preferably within a multinational company. Experience in corporate practice is advantageous.
Technical Knowledge: Strong professionalism, ethical standards, and the ability to provide sound and practical ethical and compliance advice. Proficiency in writing, drafting, and the ability to navigate complex ethical and compliance environments.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse team. High levels of drive and energy, with a keen attention to detail.
Business Understanding: to easily gain familiarity with the Group’s strategy vision, governance, ethical rules, and the energy regulatory framework.
