A vacancy exists at a Corrugated paper manufacturing with the following requirements:
Job Purpose:
To set-up and operate machines efficiently to accepted quality standards and productivity targets, as set by Company's. Accountable for the setup, problem solving and fine-tuning to meet production standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Matric/Grade 12
• Bag Making Trade
• Working on an inline handle bag machine is an advantage.
• Previous experience in the operation of bag-making machines and printing machines.
• Mechanical aptitude with basic knowledge of mechanical machinery.
• Able-bodied and capable of physical work.
• Literate and numerate and to read write speak and follow directions in English.
• Capable of being trained to understand and interpret product quality standards and packing specifications.
• Capable of being trained in safety and committed to maintaining and conforming to healthy and safe work practices.

Key responsibilities:
• Start-up and run machine to required specification speed
• Perform hourly quality checks and record checks in machine record book
• Change paper reel and join paper to web for reel change
• Wipe printing plates clean as required
• Check level of ink in duct and top up as required
• Checking and maintaining of viscosity
• Check level of side seam and bottom glues and top up as required
• Perform basic lubrication of machine parts as per lubrication schedule
• Assisting in forming boxes
• Unloading and loading of print cylinders
• Wash up demounted stereos
• Cleaning of print cylinders, if appropriate
• Ensure area around machine is swept at the end of the shift
• Wrapping of full pallets with cling wrap
• Wash up ink trays
• Labeling pallets
• Running machine to be handed over to the next shift
• Capture all machine data on the shopware system
• Check product quality meets specification.
• All minder functions including the following:
• Adjust controls to start, stop or tune machinery and equipment
• Fine tuning and troubleshooting on machines
• Ordering of raw material (ink, glue, paper etc.)
• Demounting and mounting of stereos
• Setting of print
• Weigh and record machine waste at the completion of the shift
• Pre-make-ready for the following job.
• Capture all operations data on the shopware system
• Complete new product full setup in the standard time
• Set-up and maintain machines, tools, equipment and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions, so as to achieve maximum output and minimal waste
• Setting of photo cell or other control equipment on the machine.
• Execute in depth trouble shooting to optimize machine performance
• Inspect raw materials for defects and ensure conformance to specification
• Report any quality issues to the Shift Technician immediately
• Report any machine problems to the Shift Technician immediately
Other responsibilities:
• Clean machine as required and as per cleaning checklist
• Maintain Housekeeping standards in the machine area
• Assist in the operation of other machines as directed by supervision
• Work with packers and assist in packing as required
• Will work overtime, weekends and shifts as directed by supervisor
• Follow any reasonable instruction by superiors
