Planner
The Planner creates tender schedules, labour and plant histograms as required for submission with tender documents. The Planner creates project schedules and updates the project plan/program in coordination with all stakeholders of the project(s). The Planner provides information to the Project Management and Design Management teams on project progress to both critical path and project milestones. The Planner works closely with the Project management team in monitoring the program and provides weekly and monthly reports to the management team and clients.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
To be successful in this role, personnel must consistently meet some KPIs regulated by senior management. This includes but is not limited to:
- Compile tender schedules & Basic Project Schedules
- Compile detailed project schedules
- Constant scope reviews and impacts
- Assist with extension of time and acceleration projects
- Schedule deviations should not exceed +/- 10% of total project durations
Input / Actions required:
- Draft program in conjunction with the Project team for approval by the Project Lead.
- Discuss & agree resources and timescales with the Project Lead.
- Ensure all activities within the Project scope of work are included in programs.
- Plan and incorporate client milestones.
- Issue programs of work in accordance with Document Control system.
- Gather information from design team, subcontractors, client for progress reporting purposes.
- Responsible for updating the project plan throughout the project lifetime.
- Maintain cause and effect records in liaison with the Project Lead.
- Regularly update the project resource plan and discuss peaks and troughs with the Project Lead, incorporating man-hours with estimators.
- Manage progress reporting against the program.
- Pursue sub-contractors’ programs & ensure alignment with those of the project.
- Operate change control in line with the Project contract requirements.
- Recommend delivery and sequencing strategies to the Project Lead based on project knowledge.
- Recommend internal Project Control Process Improvements and undertake quality checks.
- Provide client performance data and exception reports as required.
- Produce S-curves and histograms.
- Gather actual data, update project schedule, and develop reliable schedule forecast with support from the project team.
- Require the ability to break down projects into logical sequences including equipment, structural steel, piping, platework, electrical etc.
- Obtain client approval – and update the schedule to reflect any changes.
- Ensure following of the critical path is maintained.
- Attend meetings.
1. Educational & Professional Qualification:
- Higher National Diploma or equivalent level of technical/engineering or project management qualification is required.
- 6 years of Planning/Scheduling Experience.
- Knowledge in MS Project, Primavera P6, MS Office.
2. Technical Skills Required:
- Excellent time and project management skills.
- Familiarity with project management.
- Demonstrable competence gained in a planning/scheduling role.
- Ideally experience gained within a construction industry.
- Experience of working within a project delivery environment is essential.
- Full knowledge of the Project Lifecycle is essential.
3. Managerial and other Skills Required:
- Demonstrate a calm and methodical approach to working to deadlines.
- Ideally will have cost control experience.
- Thorough, analytical, seeks detail in areas of conflict/disagreement or uncertainty.
- Provide guidance and support to Junior Planners.
- Minimum management required from the Project Manager.
- Proactively seeks out information from the Project team and other stakeholders to update the programme.
- Effective communication skills. Need to clearly explain to different stakeholders using facts and detail.
- Enjoys dealing with different tasks, people, objectives at the same time.
