Objective:
Responsible for line-inspection Quality Assurance & Control across fabricated projects within the fabrication network along with associated duties, DMS.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Managing Quality Assurance & Control according to ISO9001:2015 within the projects as required.
- Stimulating quality awareness & implications with all Employees across the spectrum.
- Performing QC inspections prior to welding: layout, fit-up, sub-assembly & final-assembly inspections.
- Performing QC inspections during welding: pre-heat, weld quality compliance, interval distortion checks & NDT witnessing on back gouging of critical welds.
- Performing QC inspections after welding: dimensional checks on critical components, inspection of welds prior to NDT, NDT arrangements & NDT requests.
- Performing QC inspections final after: primer painting, final inspection before final painting, witnessing weighing of products, pre-shipment, completing checklists (final product punch-list & supervisor/QC check sheet).
- Performing QC inspections related to line-bore: line-up inspection according to drawing, photo evidence available for critical dimensions, workmanship checks (weld quality), assisting with queries, compiling checklist (record actual dimensions measured).
- Performing QC inspections for miscellaneous acceptance review: x-ray inspection, bushes & small parts, NDT & visual casting witness, machine components, qualifying/certifying of welders (issuing with ID tags), supplier parts.
- Raising new NDT requests as well as reviewing and compiling NDT reports on Galactus live system.
- Acquiring evidence & data for quality control and data books/MDR.
- Progressively compiling photographic, pre-heat, customer, & line boring reports (MDR or stand-alone).
- Logging CIP, CAR and NCR issues as & when necessary, ITP/QCP/SOW hold-point monitoring & managing sign-off of ITP/QCP/SOW process steps.
- Managing 3rd party & client inspections, assisting with logistics if necessary, occasional breakdown support.
- Performing in-house MT & PT inspections, recording of UT failures on live system.
- Identifying shortcomings in manufacture; reporting anomalies & recommending changes in systems.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Education & Training:
- National Senior Certificate; Qualified Trade; minimum Level 1 Welding & Fabrication Inspector Certificate.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Minimum Experience Indicator: 5 years welding & fabrication experience in a similar position.
- Interpretation of design intent (drawings, blueprints, engineering documents) & ensuring requirements of relevant codes, standards & specifications are met; Advanced knowledge of welding procedures and processes (FCAW/SAW/CO2 on Q&T plates).
- Proficient computer & math skills, particularly MS 365; Be tech-savvy (use tablets, smartphones, communication, etc. with ease).
