Role Summary
As the Business Analyst, you will work with the greater product team to ensure that we launch quality products that solve real client problems and create new opportunities for all financial market participants. This is a core responsibility within our product team as we pride ourselves on ensuring that the solutions we build solve real-world problems and create accessibility to financial markets for all.
There are positions available in Johannesburg and Stellenbosch.
Your Mission
As a Senior Quantitative Business Analyst (BA) you will be responsible for:
- Defining requirements and leading the team in executing the build of our Mesh.Oracle which controls and defines all the financial assets issued in Mesh. The Mesh.Oracle is built and run on the Quant Lib library.
- Identifying financial and risk management problems and applying mathematical and statistical methods to solve them.
- Defining requirements for implementation of financial and risk management models.
- Managing and tracking the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; reprioritising and redefining as necessary.
- Performing continuous monitoring and improvement of financial and risk management processes.
- Utilising product implementation methodologies: Lean Startup and Agile development.
- Identifying and establishing the scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.
- Defining and documenting models for solving financial and risk management problems.
- Applying advanced statistical and predictive modelling techniques to build, maintain and improve on financial product offerings across multiple asset classes.
- Defining and specifying the requirements for the implementation of financial models by the wider product team.
- Managing requirements for financial model implementation throughout the product delivery lifecycle.
- Continuously monitoring the performance of financial products and associated models for improvement.
- Providing business metrics for the overall project to show improvements, as well as ongoing tracking and monitoring of performance.
- Eliciting, analysing, specifying, and validating the business needs of stakeholders, whether customers or end users.
- Conducting interviews to gather requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, storyboards, use cases, scenarios, or other methods.
- Assisting with the interpretation of customer requirements into feasible options, and communicating these back to the business stakeholders.
- Translating conceptual customer requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to the wider product development team.
- Creating process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to the product development team.
- Developing and utilising standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirements specifications, both business and functional.
- Analysing and verifying requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards.
- Conducting peer and team reviews of requirements to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted.
- Collaborating with project sponsors to implement project scope and vision.
- Working with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements.
- Communicating changes, enhancements, and modifications of requirements to stakeholders.
- Researching, reviewing, and analysing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and developing strategies for enhancing or further improving these processes.
- Staying up-to-date with new requirement tools and strategies.
- Conducting research on products to meet agreed upon requirements.
- Guiding the selection of any requirements documentation software solutions that the organization may opt to use.
- Leading the QA of purchased solutions to ensure features and functions have been enabled and optimized.
- Providing guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members.
About You

You are able to work in a team or self-manage (stakeholder and expectations management is important).
You have 3+ years’ experience in Quantitative Research with preferred experience in coding in R/Python/MATLAB in financial services.
You have working experience in the field of quantitative research.
You have working knowledge of the financial market across different asset classes, with a particular focus on interest-bearing/fixed income.
You have working knowledge of standard analysis processes, BPMN and UML.
BSc or MSc in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, applied mathematics, finance, engineering or physics.
Not required but would be beneficial:
Experience working with blockchain or other Financial Market applications.
Experience in product development in a lean-led, design thinking focused and agile team setting.
Post-graduate qualification and CFA/FRM advantageous.
