Duties and responsibilities: Perform routine specialised molecular testing services as required in the Molecular Biology Testing Laboratory. Participate in the quality control system in the molecular biology unit. Provide technical support to postgraduate research projects as required. Assist in financial administration and participate in general laboratory administration and maintenance. Participate in laboratory procurement process and maintenance. Inherent Job Requirements: A B. Med Sc Honours or equivalent in a Molecular Biology related field on NQF Level 8 with specialisation in Molecular Biology. A working knowledge of specialised Molecular Biology techniques including DNA extraction qualitative and quantitative real-time PCR. A minimum of six (6) months work experience in a routine Molecular Biology diagnostic laboratory. The successful candidate will be required to register with either the HPCSA or the SACNASP as a professional scientist during the probation period. Recommendations: The application of Molecular Biology techniques on food matrices. Knowledge regarding Standard Operating Procedures for methods and specialized equipment employed in a Molecular Biology laboratory. Working knowledge of routine laboratory maintenance in a Molecular Biology Laboratory. Working knowledge of quality management in a Molecular Biology Laboratory.
